Handcrafted cloth and 100% natural, aromatherapeutic skincare products About Us The idea of selling handcrafted cloth products first arose when I was looking for bibs with snap closures in the local stores. I was tired of the standard hook-and-loop closures wearing out and ruining my other laundry. Unable to find such a product, I began sewing my own. I was also already sewing bum wipes for my kids, as I cloth diaper and didn't like using the scented disposable ones from the store. Soon I was sewing all kinds of stuff, including a diaper bag and clothes for myself and my kids. As for the body products, we were researching treatments for eczema and realized that the main source of breakouts is the preservatives, petrochemicals, and parabens found in most water-based skin care products. Needless to say, eczema sufferers are very limited in their choice of moisturizers. No water-based products for you! There had to be alternatives. Regrettably, finding them in the Ottawa Valley proved to be a challenge and led to us making our own skincare products. We began experimenting with beeswax, various butters and essential oils, to heal, soothe and renew. This has grown into a profitable venture as we share our experience and products with other people. As well as being a producer with the Ottawa Valley Food Co-op, Vanilla Bean & Bella is in its third season as a vendor at the Pembroke Farmers' Market. Board experience with both organizations provides us with many opportunities to learn about local food and the demand for natural alternatives, as well as the chance to connect with the people we serve. We want to provide simple, effective options to people who are bombarded by the choices (and chemicals!) in the baby and skincare industries. We have over 12 years experience in making skincare products and we want to provide natural, safe, affordable alternatives to what you'll find at ANY other store in the Valley - we truly are unique! The two main things that drive this little business are a desire to support the local economy and the belief that you should keep it 100% NATURAL when it comes to your babies and your skin! We use only NATURAL ingredients in the body products - this means no fragrance oils, preservatives, colourants or petrochemicals. All of our body products are vegetarian or vegan. All of our ingredient suppliers are Canadian and whenever possible, we search out organic, fair-trade and local.
