Organic (non-certified) fruits, vegetables, and beans. Many heirloom varieties. About Us We are a husband and wife team, along with interns and volunteers, working together on a 5-acre market garden located in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, outside of Cobden, ON. Though we have been following certified organic practices for five years just this year did we apply and pay for legal certification. We have been approved for full organic certification for 2012 through ECO-CERT. We produce over 150 different varieties of fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts and decorative and edible flowers. We use organic and permacultural growing methods to ensure the healthiest and highest quality of produce for you and your family. We have an Environmental Farm Plan and work to enhance and protect clean and prosperous wildlife habitat and human surroundings. Our fresh produce is distributed through a weekly basket program, through the OVFC, and on weekends at the Carp and Ottawa Landsdowne Farmer?s Markets. Please email us at rainbowheritage(at)gmail.com for any comments, questions, or suggestions you may have. Browse through our Products for Sale Practices (our standards for raising or making our products) We use organic growing practices; no GMOs. Cover crops and composted manure fromthe grass-fed beef on the farm provide fertility for the gardens. Crops rotation, protection and prevention replace pesticides in our production practices. Our rich clay loam soil makes for some very sweet root veggies like carrots, beets and onions. Order number of 5 bags. Makes a great local-food gift, for Christmas, birthdays, secret Santa, stocking stuffer etc.! A wonderful mix of heirloom bean varieties that we have selected and saved over the last 6 years. Beans have long been a staple of North American diets for both Native people and European settlers. High in protein, fiber, calcium, iron and potassium the bean is a powerhouse of nutrition, flavor and energy. This mix contains our favorite varieties dating back to the 1600s, such as the Vermont Cranberry a homestead favorite from the Northeast, the Hidasta shield bean a Native American variety from Saskatchewan and the Cherokee Trail of Tears a wonderful black bean brought West with the Cherokee Nation from the Carolinas and Tennessee. We have selected each variety to make the most colorful, nutritious, tasty and cultural mix. Each bag comes with two recipe sheets for an Heirloom Bean Chili and Heirloom Bean Soup. Beans are harvested by hand and cleaned in an antique hand-powered fanning mill. Mix may differ slightly from photo, but they are all gorgeous and delicious! | - | $55.00/5 bags |

Order number of 5 lbs. A small, thin skinned potato that originates from Peru. The blue colour indicates that this potato is chock full of nutrients and anti-oxidants. Steam, bake, roast, fry or microwave these potatoes to keep as much colour as possible. When boiled, they fade to a still interesting lavender, although I'm told that putting a spoonful or two of vinegar in the water will help preserve the colour. | - | $15.00/ 5 lbs |
