Solar lighting products, Replacement batteries, Solar panels, LED light bulbs About Us Glenergy was founded in 2001 and now includes a partially-owned subsidiary in Tanzania, with additional companies in the works for Uganda and El Salvador. We began with a mission to bring solar-powered lighting to the developing world, and went through several generations of our 'Edulight' solar reading lamp to yield the current array of models. Since the knowledge that we require in order to offer sensible technical solutions for our African end users is the same knowledge that we need to design suitable solar power systems for a local market, we maintain inventories for our off-shore market that can be tapped for local North American and Valley business as well. Take advantage of the sun for energy independence, emergency back-up power and lighting, and lighting & power in remote and off-grid locations. The items we offer for sale through the Ottawa Valley Food Co-op are some of the ones that we make ourselves here in Petawawa. For the full list of solar energy products that we offer, both made by us and not, visit our website at www.glenergy.ca or visit our store at 2669 Petawawa Blvd. Browse through our Products for Sale Ingredients Lamp Components: Either NiMH (nickel-metal hydride) or SLA (sealed lead acid) batteries, Polycrystalline Si solar panels, 12 V LED bulbs, Switch, Circuit protection, Lamp body Environmental and economic benefits of LED lighting: 1) LED bulbs (and also compact fluorescent bulbs) use 1/4 the amount of electricity consumed by incandescent bulbs 2) LED bulbs last 50 times longer than incandescent bulbs, and 5 times longer than compact fluorescents. 3) Unlike fluorescent bulbs, LED bulbs contain no toxic mercury 4) Unlike kerosene, propane and other fuel-based lighting, LED bulbs do not continuously use non-renewable resources, and do not emit harmful smoke into the air, while giving brighter or comparable light. Practices (our standards for raising or making our products) We assemble solar lighting solutions as close to the end user as is effective. We exchange batteries and recycle or properly dispose of the returned ones. We accept fluorescent bulbs for return and recycle them to recover mercury and prevent its entry into the environment. Our goal is to contribute to the migration of 1.2 billion people away from fuel-based lighting towards solar lighting, and transform their lives in the process. We offer microcredit to the end users in developing countries, to enable them to purchase a $30 lamp that replaces $60 per year of kerosene... Additional Information We are remarkably helpful folks, and can help you with a lighting project anywhere in the world. We can help you launch a solar entrepreneur somewhere in the world so that you can transform lives yourself. We can sell you a lamp, or a thousand of them... Highlights this Month Our Tanzanian partner just returned to Africa after experiencing remarkably nice weather while here in Petawawa for three weeks. We finalized and submitted our detailed proposal to the Tanzanian Rural Energy Agency as finalists in the 'Lighting Rural Tanzania' competition. |
